Week 8 NFL Scores

NFL ScoresGreen Bay 19, Denver 13 (OT)

The Packers out-dueled the Broncos as Brett Favre threw an 82 yard bomb to Greg Jennings on the first play from scrimmage in overtime to end the game. Green Bay is now a shocking 6-1 and definitely a team to be reckoned with in the weak NFC this season.

Colts 31, Panthers 7

The Indianapolis Colts smoked the Carolina Panthers, 31-7, to remain undefeated. Peyton Manning completed 14-of-30 passes for 254 yards and two TDs for the Colts (7-0). With the loss, Carolina falls to 4-3.

Detroit 16, Chicago 7

Kevin Jones rushed 23 times for 105 yards and a touchdown and the Detroit Lions forced four turnovers en route to a 16-7 victory over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. The Lions (5-2) won for the second straight week and completed a season sweep of the defending NFC champion Bears (3-5).

Pittsburgh 24, Cincinnati 13

Ben Roethlisberger was 19-for-26 for 230 yards with two scores and an interception for the Steelers (5-2), which rebounded from a tough last second loss to the Broncos last week. Carson Palmer was 23-of-31 for 205 yards and a touchdown for the Bengals (2-5).

NY Giants 13, Miami 10

The New York Giants extended their winning streak to 6 games with a 13-10 victory over the win less Miami Dolphins in the first NFL regular season game played outside of North America. The Miami Dolphins (0-8) continued their worst start in franchise history and extended their team record losing streak to eleven games dating back to last year.

Philadelphia 23, Minnesota 16

Donovan McNabb threw for 333 yards and 1 touchdown to lead the Philadelphia Eagles (3-4) to a 23-16 win over the Minnesota Vikings (2-5).

Cleveland 27, St. Louis 20

Derek Anderson threw 3 touchdown passes, lifting the Cleveland Browns (4-3) over the injury-riddled St. Louis Rams, 27-20, at the Edward Jones Dome. The Rams (0-8), suffered their eighth consecutive loss to extend their worst start in franchise history.

Tennessee 13, Oakland 9

LenDale White gained 133 yards on 25 carries to lead Tennessee (5-2) over Oakland (2-5), 13-9, at LP Field.

Buffalo 13, NY Jets 3

J.P. Losman came on in relief of Buffalo starting quarterback Trent Edwards to pass for 113 yards and lead the Bills on a pair of scoring drives in a 13-3 win over the lifeless New York Jets at Giants Stadium.

San Diego 35, Houston 10

Philip Rivers threw for 3 touchdowns, and Antonio Cromartie added 2 defensive touchdowns as San Diego routed Houston, 35-10, at Qualcomm Stadium.

Jacksonville 24, Tampa Bay 23

Quinn Gray, making his first NFL start, went just 7-of-16 for 100 yards and one touchdown, but a consistent running game and a solid defense helped Jacksonville to a 24-23 win over Tampa Bay.

New England 52, Washington 7

Tom Brady turned in another outstanding performance, completing 29-of-38 passes for 306 yards and 3 touchdowns, and also rushed for 2 scores as the New England Patriots remained undefeated by destroying the Washington Redskins, 52-7, at Gillette Stadium.

New Orleans 31, San Francisco 10

Drew Brees threw 4 touchdown passes, 3 of them to Marques Colston, as New Orleans rolled over San Francisco 31-10. Brees completed 31-of-39 passes for 336 yards for the Saints (3-4), who are starting to resemble the team that played for the NFC championship last year.

Be Leery of People Trying to Sell You NFL Picks

NFL PicksIf you read the sports page I am sure you have seen more than a few handicappers advertising their 'Lock of the Year,' 'Lock Winner of the Week,' 'Our Can't Lose 5 Star Pick,' etc., they are hard to miss. Some sports handicapping services have 'Lock of Year' NFL picks every single week.

It is hard to believe that gamblers still fall for these advertising tactics. Now don't get me wrong, sometimes they might work for a while and maybe you can win some quick money. However, you could also just as quickly loose a chunk of change if they have given you losing picks.

Generally, if they have given you some losing picks right off the start they will be guaranteeing their 'Winning' picks for next week will make your money back. Sometimes it works, but in the end you will lose much more money than you ever imagined.

I have even heard that some of these services sell half the people one team, and half the other. This is a great way for them to look like 'geniuses' to the half that win. This way they will get those people to call back next week and pay for more of their picks. This is how they reel people in.

Lets be realistic, how could someone sell you NFL picks that win every time. If this were the case, then all of the casinos in Vegas would be closed. And the last time I checked, they were only getting bigger and richer.

You are probably better off flipping a coin to make your pick, heads I take the Packers, tails I take the Bears. At least it did not cost you anything to decide who to bet on, and you might even win more often.

QVC.com Sets Company Record for NFL Jerseys Sold In a Single Day

NFL jerseysRecently, QVC, one of the largest multimedia retailers in the world, and leading e-commerce solutions provider GSI Commerce Inc. teamed up to produce a successful, customized product campaign that was promoted during the 20Th anniversary of QVC's popular "Today's Special Value" television program.

Customized NFL jerseys for men, women, and children were promoted on air as an offer available through QVC.com during the recent anniversary celebration of QVC's "Today's Special Value" program.

They sold over nine thousand customized NFL team jerseys on QVC.com in just one day.

"This is a true multi-channel success story," said Robert Myers, senior vice president of QVC.com.

"The NFL customized jersey presented us with a terrific opportunity to leverage the strengths of our on-air and online channels. On air we were able to create excitement and awareness in a way that few retailers can, and online we were able to provide the customer with the ability to preview their customized jersey before purchasing it."

"This multi-channel effort resulted in a GSI record for the most NFL jerseys sold in a single day," said Bob Liewald, GSI executive vice president of merchandising. "We more than doubled our initial sales estimate."

NFL Tickets

NFL TicketsRecently, SI.com's Rick Reilly wrote a story about a guy in Green Bay who finally got his season tickets to the Packers after being on the waiting list for 37 years.

Reilly had this great line about Green Bay tickets:

"For instance, if you put your name on the waiting list today, you would be number 74,659. An average of 70 people give up their tickets every year, which means you'll have your tickets by the 3074 season. Luckily you'll still catch Brett Favre's last year."

So what NFL tickets are the hardest to come by?

Well, one reasonable measure, inexact as it might be, is to determine how expensive they are to purchase on the so-called secondary market, assuming that cost and "hard-to-get" run on parallel tracks.

Well these days, the resale of sports tickets is dominated by the big Internet market places, such as TicketsNow and StubHub. The tickets actually come from licensed ticket brokers from all over the country.

And according to TicketsNow, based on the sale of thousands of tickets during the current NFL season, the highest priced ticket is for the Chicago Bears at an average price of $313.67.

NFL Logos

NFL LogosRecently, US Airways unveiled a new aircraft dedicated to the Carolina Panthers.

The Airbus A319 is the airline's 4Th NFL themed plane, with a Pittsburgh Steelers plane revealed last month, and aircraft adorned with the NFL logos of the Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles launched in 2006.

Travis Christ, US Airways' Vice-President of Sales & Marketing, said that Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, the team's hometown hub, was the perfect location for announcing the new plane.

"We're proud to be associated with such a first class organization like the Carolina Panthers and hope that their fans will enjoy seeing their team colors fly across the US Airways skies," he added.

Mark Richardson, President of Panthers Football, added: "The Carolina Panthers and US Airways have had a great relationship over the years and there is no better way to symbolize the association than having a plane painted in Panther colors."

"Our team travels on US Airways charter flights and they have been a great supporter of our organization. Charlotte is an important hub for the company and we are proud to be included among US Airways' customers."

NFL Sunday Ticket

nfl sunday ticketA few years ago in Philadelphia there were only 2 NFL teams you could watch playing at the bar on a Sunday afternoon: The Philadelphia Eagles and whoever they were playing that week.

Now Cowboys, Bears, and Raiders fans expect to head to their favorite watering hole and watch their teams do battle, no matter who they're playing.

DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket and similar cable packages that were unique several years ago are now a necessity for bars during football season.

Jack Eaton, a bartender at Tilton Inn in Egg Harbor Township, PA, says the bar gets a lot of phone calls from patrons who want to make sure they have the NFL Sunday Ticket before they leave their house to watch football on Sunday.

Patrons come in and either park themselves in front of whatever TV is playing their game, or ask their bartender to change the channel to accommodate their seat.

"We've got a guy here who's a big Pittsburgh fan," Eaton says. "So we make sure we put the Pittsburgh game on for him."

Keith Asmuth was born and raised near Buffalo, NY, making him a die hard Buffalo Bills fan. But since he currently lives in Egg Harbor Township, he rarely gets to see his beloved Bills.

"You can go anywhere now and someone has it," Asmuth says. "You can watch almost every game."

At the Tilton Inn, Eaton places a device on the bar that looks like a cross between a Blackberry and an Xbox controller. It is the Sunday afternoon bartender's salvation: A universal remote.

"See here, it connects to all the TVs and I can change any of the channels," Eaton says, touching various buttons on the screen.

"This way if someone wants to put the game on, we can swing it on for them."

NFL Fantasy Football

Fantasy Football There have been some big surprises in NFL fantasy football so far, as well as some patterns that should make your fantasy football decisions a bit easier.

As for the surprises, the pathetic starts by the top running backs definitely top the list. LaDainian Tomlinson, Larry Johnson, and Stephen Jackson have not merited their top selections.

Another surprise is Randy Moss, who has officially returned to freak status. A season after he quit on his Raiders teammates, Moss has showed no sign of quitting, not even on a single play.

Moss has been targeted thirty four times this season by Tom Brady; he's caught 31 passes for 505 yards and 7 touchdowns. Those are unbelievable numbers and remind you of the Randy "The Freak" Moss of the past.

Moss is no doubt proving to be one of the biggest steals in most every fantasy draft this year.

As for the patterns that should make your weekly choices easier, here are what we now so far.

First and foremost, Denver and Miami cannot stop the run. You should start everybody and anybody you have at running back going forward against these two teams, especially the Dolphins, who are dead last in rushing defense.

The Raiders absolutely destroyed Miami's run defense last weekend rushing for 299 yards. You know a run defense is horrible when Justin Fargas can find as much daylight as he did on route to his career best 178 yard performance.

Also, pick up the defense that's playing the 49ers each week. The 49ers were bad even with Alex Smith at quarterback; don't expect them to get any better with Trent Dilfer at the helm.

NFL Cheerleaders

NFL Cheerleaders Apparently, the visiting team at NFL games does not want to see the home team cheerleaders any more.

Last week, it was announced that NFL cheerleaders were no longer allowed to warm-up in front of the visiting teams, or cause them any distraction.

NFL cheer leading is considered a part-time job for many of the cheerleaders, but the substantial commitment, team spirit, and image they portray is often an intricate part of NFL football. They provide entertainment to fans in the stands and television viewers, in between game play.

Recently, complaints came to NFL Commissioners that rival teams were asking their cheerleaders to warm up in front of the other side, with hopes of distracting them from pregame strategies.

In an effort to fight these alleged incidents, the NFL has sent a memo to teams banning the cheerleaders from warm up activities.
