Insider Info That Could Impact the NFL Odds on the Super Bowl

NFL OddsI just recently talked to a friend that has some insider information that could greatly impact the NFL odds on the Super Bowl this weekend in Arizona. According to my friend, the New York Giants team has rented out half of the rooms at one of the local casinos here in Arizona. Here is the best part; the other half of the casino has been rented out by Hugh Hefner and the Playboy organization.

In my last post I mentioned that I was looking to take the points and the underdog New York Giants, but after hearing of this development I think the smart money could be on the Patriots. With all the distractions from Playboy Playmates and Bunnies, I think any man would agree that the Giants will be worn out after a week of partying with some of the most beautiful women in the world. If I were a Giants player, the last thing in my mind right now would be the Super Bowl game.

NFL Football Picks: The Super Bowl

NFL Football PicksThe latest line on the Super Bowl is basically the same as when it opened last week. The eight major sports books on the Internet still have the line anywhere from 11 to 12 points with the Patriots as the favorite. With Patriots QB Tom Brady looking more healthy and ready to go than he did a week ago, it looks like the Patriots should continue their winning ways and walk away with the Super Bowl.

If they Patriots win, they will join elite company with the Miami Dolphins as the only teams in the modern era to complete a perfect, undefeated NFL season through the Super Bowl. Most of the professional NFL handicappers current NFL football picks for the Super Bowl are the Patriots and the over. However, I love the points and am thinking of taking the Giants to cover the spread and hopefully spoil the Patriots perfect season.

The Latest NFL News: Is Tom Brady Hurt?

NFL NewsThe latest NFL news this week has focused on this seasons NFL MVP, Tom Brady, quarterback of the New England Patriots. It all started on Monday when photographs surfaced showing him wearing a protective boot on his right foot and carrying a bouquet of flowers outside his girlfriends New York City apartment.

Not surprisingly, Patriots coach Bill Belichick stayed to true to his usual form today, refusing to discuss Tom Brady's health with the media. "I don't have any comment on it. I don't have any comment on it," he said in a news conference this morning before the Patriots held their first practice in preparation for the Feb. 3 Super Bowl against the New York Giants.

Unnamed sources are saying that Brady just has a mild high ankle sprain, so with another week of rest before the Super Bowl, he should be good to go for the game.

The Early NFL Line for the Super Bowl

NFL LineWell, finally we are down to 2 NFL teams, with the New York Giants and New England Patriots set to battle for the Super Bowl title in Phoenix. Unfortunately, the Packers were unable to hold off the red hot Giants this past weekend in the Ice Bowl at Lambeau. However, the Giants versus the Patriots should prove for a good match-up, as the Giants played New England really close when they faced off at the end of the regular season.

I have been checking around for the NFL line for the Super Bowl and the top sports books have the Patriots anywhere from 11 to 12 point favorites. The over slightly wavers between 53 1/2 and 54 points. This should be a great game, and I think it will be hard for me to pass up taking the 12 points and the Giants.

This Weeks NFL Football Schedule: Conference Championship Games

NFL Football ScheduleThis weeks NFL football schedule provides some interesting Conference Championship Games at New England and Green Bay:

This Sunday opens at New England with the San Diego Chargers traveling to face the still undefeated Patriots at 3pm EST. This is a good match-up, however I think the Chargers will have a tough time after getting so beaten up at Indianapolis last Sunday, and their recent injuries will take their toll. The Patriots are favored by 14, and even though this is a lot of points for a game of this magnitude, I think you have to take the Patriots.

After, the New York Giants travel to Green Bay to take on the Packers at 6:30pm EST. This is an intriguing match-up as everyone was thinking the Cowboys would be playing Green Bay instead. The Giants have been incredible on the road this season, and have been very hot as of late, winning consecutive road games the first two weeks of the playoffs. So who is to say the magic will not continue this weekend at Green Bay? I think this game will be an all out war, and I have to take the Giants getting 7 points, even though I think the Packers will win, but just by a field goal.

Only 4 NFL Teams Left Vying For the Coveted Super Bowl Trophy

NFL TeamsAfter a weekend of incredible games, only 4 NFL teams are left vying for the coveted Super Bowl trophy. There were 2 big upsets as New York went to Dallas and beat the Cowboys for a trip to Lambeau to face the hot Packers, and surprisingly San Diego upset defending Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis and now must get through the undefeated Patriots.

Luckily, I went 3 for 4 on my picks for these games with the only loss coming when New England failed to cover the 13 1/2 point spread over Jacksonville, winning by only 11 points. Check back later this week, when I make my Conference Championship picks.

These Are the Latest NFL Odds

NFL OddsHere are the latest NFL odds taken as an average from eight of the biggest sports books on the Internet:

Green Bay Packers -7 1/2
Seattle Seahawks
This is a nice match-up with former Packers Coach Mike Holmgren bringing his Seahawks to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field. I like the Packers to win this one and also to cover the spread. Anyone who has ever been to Lambeau knows how hard it is for a visiting team to win at Lambeau, especially in the playoffs.

New England Patriots -13 1/2
Jacksonville Jaguars
Even though the Jaguars beat the Steelers last week in Pittsburgh, they are no match for the New England offense. I like the Patriots, Tom Brady and Randy Moss, enough said.

Indianapolis Colts -9
San Diego Chargers
This is probably the best match-up of the weekend, and I like the Colts to win, but San Diego to cover the points as this should be a real grudge match.

Dallas Cowboys -7 1/2
New York Giants
This is another great match-up and a lot hinges on whether Terrell Owens plays. For some really weird reason I like the Giants to cover this spread at Dallas.

The NFL Football Playoffs Start For Real This Weekend

NFL FootballThe NFL football playoffs start for real this weekend as the remaining 4 teams in each conference get set to battle. I have long considered the first weekend (Wild Card weekend) of the playoffs to basically be nothing more than a chance to see who was going to lose the next weekend.

All of the teams that won this weekend will be going on the road to face the top two seeded teams in each conference who had byes this past weekend. It would be a big surprise if any of these road teams win this weekend, and from looking at the early odds I would say the book makers are thinking the same thing. The lowest point spread right now is in the Green Bay Packers giving 8 points to the Seahawks who will be visiting the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field.

This Weeks NFL Football Odds

NFL Football OddsWell, finally the first weekend of NFL playoff games is finally upon us. As generally is the case, all but one home team is favored. Somehow the Jacksonville Jaguars who are traveling to Pittsburgh are giving up anywhere from 1 point to 2 and a half to the Steelers. This is coming from pointspread.com, which has the NFL football odds from five of the major sports books.

The home teams almost always win in the playoffs because home field advantage becomes such a huge factor, especially when bad weather is added to the equation. That is why I am shocked that a warm weather team like the Jaguars who are visiting frigid Pittsburgh are favored. Even though the Steelers have had some bad injuries recently, I think it is hard to bet against a home team in the NFL playoffs.

One of the Best Selling NFL Jerseys of All-Time: Brett Favre

NFL JerseysNot surprisingly, Brett Favre's number 4 Green Bay Packers jersey is one of the best selling NFL jerseys of all-time. At the helm of the Green Bay Packers offense for the past sixteen seasons Favre has set numerous NFL quarterback records, making the jersey sales come as no surprise.

It was recently noted by an unnamed NFL league official that the number 4 Favre jersey has now become the all-time best selling jersey in the history of NFL football. Favre's incredible performance on the field leading to a first round playoff bye for the Packers has sparked even more sales nationwide, according to league officials and Reebok, the sole manufacturer of licensed NFL jerseys.

"Favre is the Pied Piper of licensed apparel," said Reebok's Eddie White.
