Controversy Strikes Regarding NFL Overtime Rule
In the 2008 season, controversy rose due to comments made by Donovan McNabb after an overtime tie with the Cincinnati Bengals. According to McNabb, he did not understand the NFL overtime rule that a tie can occur if no points have been scored at the end of the OT.This was a major talking point to sports talk show hosts all over the country, especially in Philadelphia. But this mishap got NFL officials thinking after the season was over during their discussions relating to the modification of rules for the next season.
Overtime in the NFL has been criticized for some time now. The fact that a game can be determined based on the toss of a coin has many people convinced that there must be a better way to decide overtime. However, no changes have been made regarding the overtime rule for the 2009 season.
